Quebec Maple Bread Pudding

Enjoy this recipe from Easy Classic Casseroles.

3 c. egg bread or white bread, cubed
Optional: 1/2 c. chopped pecans or walnuts
3 c. milk
1 c. brown sugar, packed
4 eggs, beaten
1 t. vanilla extract
2 T. butter, sliced
Garnish: pure maple syrup


Place bread cubes in a greased 2-quart casserole dish. Sprinkle with nuts, if using; set aside. Combine milk and brown sugar in a saucepan over medium-low heat; stir until hot and sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat. Whisk in eggs; stir in vanilla. Pour milk mixture over bread, soaking thoroughly. Dot with butter. Bake at 350 degrees for one hour, or until set. Serve warm, drizzled generously with maple syrup. Serves 4.
