Vermont Maple Cookies

1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. sugar
1 c. brown sugar, packed
2 eggs
1 c. sour cream
1 T. maple flavoring
2-3/4 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 t. baking soda
1 t. salt
1 c. chopped nuts

Maple-Butter Glaze:
1/2 c. butter
2 c. powdered sugar
2 t. maple flavoring
3 T. hot water


Combine shortening, sugars and eggs thoroughly; stir in sour cream and maple flavoring. In a separate bowl, mix flour, baking soda and salt together; blend into sugar mixture. Stir in nuts and drop by rounded tablespoonfuls, about 2 inches apart on a greased baking sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for about 10 minutes or until almost no imprint shows when lightly touched. Cool; ice with Maple Butter Glaze. Heat butter until golden brown; mix in powdered sugar and flavoring. Stir in water gradually until icing is smooth. Makes about 4 dozen.
