1 c. butter 2 c. sugar 2 eggs, beaten 1-1/2 c. unsweetened applesauce 1 t. baking soda 1/4 c. hot water 4 c. all-purpose flour 1 t. nutmeg 1 t. cinnamon 1 t. salt 1 t. vanilla extract 1-1/2 c. golden raisins 1-1/2 lbs. spiced gumdrops 1/2 lb. chopped nuts
Cream together butter and sugar; add eggs and applesauce. Beat mixture well, set aside. Blend baking soda and hot water together; add to butter mixture. Sift together flour, nutmeg, cinnamon and salt; add to creamed mixture. Stir in vanilla; fold in raisins, gumdrops and nuts. Divide mixture equally between 3 greased and floured 8"x4" loaf pans; bake at 250 degrees for 2-1/2 to 3 hours. Makes 24 servings.
