2 c. sugar 2 c. shortening 4 eggs, beaten 1 T. vanilla extract 2 c. buttermilk 6 c. all-purpose flour 1 T. plus 1 t. baking powder 2 t. baking soda 1/2 t. salt 16-oz. container butter cream frosting Optional: colored sugar or sprinkles
Blend together sugar, shortening
and eggs. Add vanilla and buttermilk. In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt; stir into sugar mixture. Add more flour as needed to make a firm dough. Chill for 2 to 3 hours or overnight. On a floured surface, roll out dough to a 1/4-inch thickness. Cut out with cookie cutters; place
on greased baking sheets. Bake at
350 degrees for 7 to 8 minutes. Let cool. Frost and decorate as desired. Makes about 6 dozen.
